In this article, I am going to tell you my experience when trying to learn Spanish, and what we found the absolute best way to learn Spanish!
Now that I have lived in Spain for more than 3 years, I can thankfully say that I am now a more experienced Spanish speaker. Actually, when I first moved to Spain, the language seemed extremely daunting, and difficult to learn. The fact is, at first, it was extremely difficult to get a grip of the language. I for one was not the kind of person who picks up languages easily, so I’m sure you can imagine how hard it was for me to learn to speak Spanish. However, even though at first learning to speak Spanish was a nightmare, I did eventually get the hang of things, and find the best ways to learn Spanish.
When I first arrived in Spain, obviously learning Spanish was one of my top priorities. Knowing this, I immediately found a Spanish tutor to get me started, and start to learn the basic fundamentals of Spanish. Even though most people say a tutor or teacher is the best way to learn Spanish, I now definitely disagree. I was well over whelmed at first with all the new words and vocabulary, and putting them into conversation and context seemed like an impossible task. Feeling it may just be the first few sessions which I would feel like this, I carried on. Once my first block of tutoring ad finished, I had learned absolutely nothing which I would actually be able to use on a day-to-day basis, and I felt paying for another block of tutoring would have been mad of me!
I was beginning to give up, and as you can imagine, I was becoming extremely frustrated at not being able to learn to speak even basic conversational Spanish. Obviously the continued thought of “learning Spanish is a must” was running through my head more and more often, and that I simple couldn’t give up. After making the ultimate decision of moving to Spain, I was beginning to think of the very worst. Furthermore, my wife Sally wasn’t getting anywhere with learning Spanish as well, meaning we could not communicate with most people whatsoever! However, it wasn’t until another English couple who we met that recommended us to another method of leaning Spanish that things really started to change for us both!
This method of learning how to speak Spanish was completely new to both me and my wife, and we thought little of it at first.
